From Frozen Self to Natural Self
From Frozen Self to Natural Self
How would you like to reclaim your Natural Self from your Frozen Self? By Natural Self I mean: All that you are, all that you were meant to be, your, Potential, Creative, Spontaneous, Charismatic Self....
Adapted beings walk amongst us, are us... They draw attention because they seem so self-assured, confident and at times arrogant. On the other hand they slip through the net and go undetected, unregistered because they seem to be expertly invisible, often characterised by a felt sense of worthlessness, low self-esteem and general unimportance. Both sides of the continuum reflect an ever growing population of people's functioning either from a superior, inflated position or an inferior, victim position; Neither of which are fluent of our true nature but rather representative of over or under compensated behaviours. Do you recognise yourself on either side or perhaps you oscillate between the two.
As a Psychotherapist I am privileged to work with a diverse range of individuals. Most of which report somewhere on the inferiority/superiority scale. Most importantly they report major dissatisfactions with their current positioning in life!! What to do?? My professional practice has led me to believe that amongst the Periphery Peacocks - the superior folks and the Invisible Moles - the inferior folks, there is a common thread that shouts: We are just human, average and beautiful. The common element seems to be the Frozen pea (jewel), the crystallised natural self, the self that was shut down, shut out and placed in a deep, secured, chained treasure chest in the darkest regions of our very being. This fossilised self is the natural, innocent purity of our essence, which was not allowed, not appropriate, not permitted into the "adult" family life of our families. A Family life, which functioned by, prescribed, preprogrammed conditions, deemed to make life manageable, doable, and perhaps digestible. Preordained values and concepts by parents, their parents and their parents before, sculptured by society, governments, history and educations in order to keep the human race in check. Repetitious life experiences surely come with a cost?? At what expense one may ask?? As a Psychotherapist I may answer at the expense of one's natural self, all that we are, knowingness and total consciousness, resulting in increased anxieties, addictions, depressions, mental and physical illnesses as well as fears, terrorism and human displacement, to name but a few...
Most Enlightened spiritual teachers encourage the acknowledgement that the answers lie within; all that we need is in us right here, right now. Why then are we still facing such dissatisfactions with life, struggles to enjoy exactly what we have and move into a place of freedom characterised by joy and celebration. Therapy I believe needs to step up its game and address the lost, imprisoned and frozen self-syndrome. The syndrome that leads through numbness and dullness and aches to be honoured and healed.
In my practice I work with individuals, couples and groups and the frozen syndrome is addressed head on. Melting is a necessary component, which is a kind of emotional defrosting, which releases from the grips of crystallisation, locked up and pent up emotions craving to be felt and acknowledged. Ironically for our protection we ingeniously restrained intense emotions and suppressed disturbing experiences from childhood and youth only to discover in our adult years those feelings that we didn't want to feel from all those years ago create healing when we have the courage to now feel them, acknowledging what is becomes liberating.
I have found a combination of therapies which consider the holistic nature of humans and address the Mind, the Body and the Essence a necessary way forward if we are to catch glimpses and more of what it truly means to experience freedom, joy and live celebratory. It is important to begin unlearning what we have learnt through talking therapies, which are integrative and have an element of the transpersonal (that which includes and transcends the personal). In this way cognitions, intellect and the spiritual dimensions are addressed and false theories and perceptions, which cause pain and destruction are attended to.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming) focuses on desensitising overwhelming often traumatic felt experiences through re-orgainising, normalising and reprogramming inner psyche structures using bi-lateral stimulation.
Family Constellations is a methodology which shakes the very bones of established values and at times societal norms by recognising core principles of "The orders of Love," such as belonging; everybody has a place, under lying our behavioural directions we are often driven by the herd mentality. Balance; there are consequences when giving and taking are out of equilibrium. Order, life flows in regard to precedence and if this is over looked in families, societies and/or cultures there are prices to pay.
Pulsation is a body and breath technique created by Aneesha Dillion and it embraces Wilhelm Reich’s findings about the body's vital energy and segments. The coiled springs that we experience when the body holds tensions and trapped energies and emotions are addressed through this methodology with a focus on the dance between anger and love, fear and trust and pain and pleasure.
Active meditations which give rise to the all important reclaiming and rediscovering of our essential self, total consciousness and the notion that we are all one, play a crucial part in the therapy process which I feel can lead to the realisation of our Natural selves and have the potential to lead to transformative self realisations. The question, which is left, is, are you ready to reclaim and release the innocent natural self within?
